more alexander

Such a great start to Ottawa's Bluesfest last night! We caught a couple of shows ... and snippets of a couple others. Nothing better then a warm, humid summer night with a few friends, a cold beer, and a plethora of music to enjoy.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros couldn't have been a more perfect show to start the festival for me. Just love that Alexander - so quirky, relaxed, and expressive. I liked that he climbed into the audience a few times, even stayed in the audience to hear Jade sing a song... cute.

The Flaming Lips were a spectacle of confetti, cheerleaders, and hamster-ball-crowd-surfing, much like last year. I noticed in one of my pictures that the lead singer from Flaming Lips was back/side stage at Edward Shapre, checking out the show. I like that - musicians hanging out and supporting each other.

On to a brief stop at Loudlove, which was indeed LOUD, and then to Tegan and Sarah. Meh. The show was nice, but I'm just not a huge fan.

The Cuban band we waited to see had a stage full of great instruments and talents, and was a bit too jazzy for my liking. However, blues man Steve Merriner was absolutely fantastic! Just him and a drummer - killer vocals and good guitar work - I'd like to see him again.

Not a fan of Soundgarden since my grunge phase in the 90's, I still couldn't help be impressed at how tight the music and vocals were. It looked like a great show ... we listened to them as we walked back to the car.

Now that's a good night of music!

I took 100's (no joke) of photos last night. A few are posted below, and I'dd add some later when I have a chance to download them to my computer. Until then, on to Ben Harper tonight. It's gonna be an exhausting couple of weeks.
